A flash flood came down the Bhote Koshi around 8:40 a.m. on Wednesday morning and kept going into the Trishuli, taking the highway, bridges and settlements at Timure and Syabrubesi with it. ANHS is raising emergency funds for shelter, food, clean water and medical supplies. Gifts may be tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law.

What happened
The flood swept from the Tibetan side of the border through Rasuwa and into Nuwakot, Dhading, Gorkha and Chitwan. Roads, bridges and essential services were severed. Figures below are as of the evening of 26 August and are still rising.

What a gift covers
Supplies are bought in Kathmandu and moved north. Shipping goods from Virginia costs more than the goods and clogs the same broken roads rescue convoys need.
Tarpaulin, rope and ground sheet — emergency shelter for one displaced family.
Hygiene and dignity kit: soap, water purification, sanitary supplies and basic first aid.
One month of rice, lentils, cooking oil and salt for a household of five.
Clean-water and sanitation equipment for a displaced cluster of about twenty families.
These are planning estimates from standard partner relief kits, not fixed prices. Actual unit costs will be published with the final expenditure report. Nothing here guarantees that a specific gift reaches a specific family; conditions are changing hour by hour.

Where the money goes
Diaspora fundraising after the 2015 earthquake left a lot of people burned. Four commitments, in writing, from the first dollar.
Every dollar tagged Rasuwa Flood Relief is held on a separate line and cannot be spent on ANHS operations, events or programs.
Funds are granted onward to the Government of Nepal's Prime Minister's Disaster Relief Fund and to verified relief partners as the response requires. ANHS retains discretion and control over the use of funds.
We will publish every cleared disbursement with its date, amount, recipient and purpose, and provide an itemized report with receipts within 60 days of the campaign close.

For eligible US taxpayers, gifts to ANHS may be tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law. No goods or services are provided in exchange for a gift. Keep your payment confirmation and request a written acknowledgment from ANHS, especially for gifts of $250 or more.
Yes — card payments work from many countries. Your gift may not be deductible under your own country's tax rules unless a reciprocal arrangement applies. Donors in the UK, Australia and Canada may receive better tax treatment through a local Nepal-focused charity.
Your gift is made to ANHS, not directly to the Nepali government. ANHS is a US 501(c)(3), retains discretion and control over how funds are used, and grants them onward to the Prime Minister's Disaster Relief Fund and relief partners as the response requires. A donation sent directly to a foreign government would not be deductible as a US charitable gift.
Air freight from the US costs several times the value of the goods, customs clearance in Kathmandu takes weeks, and shipments compete for the same damaged roads rescue and medical convoys need. Cash buys equivalent items locally, faster and cheaper, while keeping money in the Nepali economy.
Surplus stays inside the flood response and shifts from emergency relief to reconstruction — rebuilding homes, restoring water systems and replacing school supplies. If the response is fully funded, ANHS will publicly explain any redirection to related relief needs before doing it.
